The RISE-UP Initiative is a youth-led movement dedicated to addressing the critical mental health needs of young people in Sri Lanka. With 1 in 5 children and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges, and a high youth suicide rate, the need for accessible, stigma-free support is urgent. RISE-UP aims to bridge this gap by creating a safe and inclusive space where young people can connect, share, and receive the help they need to thrive.
Our Mission:
RISE-UP is committed to providing ongoing mental health support for young adults, focusing on fostering resilience, reducing stigma, and promoting overall well-being. We believe in the power of peer support, recognizing that young people often feel more at ease reaching out to peers who understand their experiences.
Our Approach:
The initiative focuses on building a strong network of trained peer supporters who provide empathetic listening, encouragement, and guidance. RISE-UP facilitates virtual meeting spaces where young people can openly discuss their mental health concerns in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. These spaces are guided by mental health professionals to ensure quality support and access to valuable resources.
Our Impact:
Since its inception, the RISE-UP Initiative has become a crucial community resource, offering support to hundreds of young people facing mental health challenges. By empowering youth with accessible support and creating a culture of openness, we are working to reduce stigma and build stronger, more resilient communities. Our goal is to inspire young people to embrace their potential and equip them with the tools they need to overcome adversity.
At RISE-UP, we believe that together, we can rise above the challenges of mental health and build a brighter, healthier future for young people in Sri Lanka.
